Shortly after the fog lifted, and bv l ie time Taranaki Falls were reached, the atmosphere was clear arid there was a cloudless sky. Little Tama was at a lower level than usual, but his bigger brother, right under Ngarahoe, was at. quite a good level for this season of the year. The track out to these lakes is in beautiful order and the journey can be accomplished in an afternoon. bn Thursday last, Air. Tom Short and his daughter Olive, made the trip across Ruapehu leaving the Chateau at six a.m. and ariving at Ohakune Junction at 5.30 p.m. Three hours were spent on the summit and the decent via Ohakune hut was commenced about 1 p.m. Clouds were not in evidence on top and the main peaks and Avalon lakes were closely inspected. On the lower country there was a fair amount of smoke, but Raetihi, Ohakune, Rangatana and surrounding settlements could be seen quite distinctly.
