COMPENSATION SYSTEM
INQUIRY COMMITTEE SITS BUSINESS TO BE IN PRIVATE Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The first meeting of the committee set up by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. W. A. Veitcli, to consider possible amendments to the Workers’ Compensation Act was held this morning. Mr. Veitch presided at the opening and afterward Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P. Mr. Veitch said the Government did not lay down any order of preference for the guidance of the committee, nor did it suggest that the committee should take any particular line in its investigations. Pie was convinced that every member of the committee had a sense of responsibility and would bring his best judgment to bear on the problem and look at it from the humanitarian aspect. A general invitation had been issued to those who desired to give evidence to do so' and it was generally agreed that the proceedings should be private. A summary of what has been done will be issued from time to time.
