Pennant Bowling
HARD PLAY ON SATURDAY Club and Inter-Club Games AUCKLAND bowlers were kept busy on Saturday after- £\ noon, when tlie final round of the inter-club pennant competition was played. Greens were in excellent order ami the struggle was keen for honours. A number of club and inter-club games occupied a number of greens in addition to the pennant round.
The final round of the Auckland Bowling Centre's pennant competition, which was played on Saturday, produced two rather surprising results in that Carlton and Manurewa, the leading clubs in sections A and B respectively, met with reverses which bgve caused them to lose their positions. Helensville has ended in first place in section A and Auckland holds that position in section B. Prior to Saturday Carlton had a percentage of 66.87, but reverses against West End and Mount Albert have lowered its figures to 64.00. Carlton lost 6i games out of 12 against West End and 3 out of 8 against Mount Albert. Nevertheless Carlton, with a quota of i*o teams, has performed very consistently throughout the series, and it is & very creditable showing to finish in second place. Remuera, with a quota of 16 teams, is another club which has done well to average 60 per cent. Auckland, with 14 teams, has performed consistently throughout, its 10 wins on Saturday placing it in the leading position. The four losses were sustained at the hands of Grey Lynn «2) and Stanley (2). Auckland’s worst day was on the previous Saturday, when the club won Si games and lost jj. Manurewa lost both its matches to Hillsborough and goes down from first to third position. Manurewa needed to win only one game on Saturday to retain its lead. Ponsonby, with 12 teams, takes second place in section B. and ends with a percentage of 62.50. Last week Ponsonby had a percentage of 65.62, but its record of six wins and six losses on Saturday reduced its figures. Auckland and Helensville will now

As Auckland has 14 teams these will be chosen and submitted to the Auckland Centre, which eliminates 10 by ballot, and leaves four to meet Heiensville's quota of four.
