A large crowd watched the concludj ing events under electric lights, and ; features of a sensational evening were l Grose’s triple win in cycle-titles and | the record-breaking run with which Wellington beat Canterbury in a wonderful relay championship. In the relay Canterbury took the lead in half a mile, Suckling running a great race and Harley ran his quarter in a tick under 50. The mile championship was a really great race in which Evans moved up when Bell went and fought out a finish with Bayne. Evans uncovered a remarkably strong sprint down the straight to win by four yards. Gibbons was five yards back. Lovelock fourth and Savidan fifth. Barnes was running a splendid race in third place until the third lap, when he had to give up and collapsed on th- track, recovering later in the evening. Ramson led all the way, clearing out in the straight to win easing up by two yards. Gilmour came fast over the final stages to beat Henry by three yards for second place. Silver (Wellington). J. W. Savidan (Auckland), J. Lovelock (Otago). Silver made the pace for a lap, and then retired. McDonald showed the way at the end of half a mile to Lovelock and Bayne. The last-named was in front after going three parts of the distance, with Savidan and Barnes next, but entering on the final section Savidan and Lovelock were just ahead of Bayne, with Evans still well back. Evans commenced his run down the back stretch, and worked his way to the front by the time the turn for home was reached. He won by three )*ards from Bayne, who was six yards ahead of Gibbons. Lovelock was two yards away ahead of Savidan and McDonald. Time, 4min 23 2-ssec. THREE MILES CYCLE FINAL. P. J. Grose (Canterbury) ] T. O’Brien (Canterbury) 2 L.
