DRIFTING LOG SIGHTED. —The superintendent of mercantile marine has been advised that a large log, which is a clanger to navigation, has been observed drifting off the East Coast one mile ana a-half north, 75deg east from Table Cape. NIAGARA’S MAIL REACHES LONDON.—The Acting-Chief Postmaster has received advice that the mails which left Auckland per R.M.S. Niagara, on February 11, via Vancouver, arrived in London on March 16, FURTHER RADIO FROM RANGITIKI. —The New Zealand Shipping Company’s motor-liner Rangitiki, inward bound from London and Southampton, has sen', a radio message that she will now ijot arrive at Wellington until 6 p.m. tomorrow. The vessel had previously advised that she would arrive at 2 p.m. BEN VENUE’S MOVEMENTS. —The G. H. Scales Company advises that its chartered steamer Benvenue, which had been lying in the stream at Wellington for the past fortnight, was to berth on Saturday to commence loading wool. The vessel will now load at Fiction, Napier, Lyttelton and Fort Chalmers. She is to leave Wellington today for Ficton, and is scheduled to sail finally from Fort Chalmers on March 28 for Dunkirk, Loiadon and Hull, via the Panama Canal. NAUTICAL STUDENTS' PASSES.— For the quarter ending this month, the following officers, ail of whom were pupils of the Richmond Nautical School, were successful in passing their examinations:—Second mate, foreign-going: Mr. R. KAIMIRO FROM AUSTRALIA. — The j Union Company’s Kaimiro is expected at four o’clock this afternoon from Adelaide, Edith burg, AVallaroo, and Hobart, via Southern ports. She has been allotted a berth at Queen’s Wharf, and is to leave again tomorrow evening for Portland. TOFU A DUE TONIGHT. — The Union Company's Island passenger steamer Tofua has sent a radio message to the effect that she expects to arrive in port from Suva at midnight tonight. She will berth tomorrow morning at Queen’s Wharf to land passengers, mails, and cargo from Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa, and is announced to sail on her next trip to the Islands at 11 a.m. on Saturday. CARGO FROM THE EAST. —The Union Companv advisse that the Narbada is due at Calcutta on Thursday to commence loading Eastern merchandise for Auckland, AVellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is to leave Calcutta early in April for Rangoon, Penang, Singapore, and Sumarang for further loading. If sufficient cargo is shipped, the vessel will make calls at Timaru and Bluff for discharging purposes.
