AUCKLAND TENNIS

A GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN FOR REMUERA B}* 15 matches to 10 Remuera took A grade championship honours from Eden-Epsom on Saturday afternoon after a keenly-fought contest on the Stanley Road courts. Remuera had worked right through the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s -competitions this season and Saturday’s match was against the holders from last year. Many of Auckland's best players competed, and play was of a very high inter-club standard. Eden and Epsom's weaknes was in its women players, only winning two out of nine matches; in the men's matches Eden and Epsom led by 6 matches to 4; three matches, one women’s and two combined, were abandoned. Auckland championship results wero reversed when N- G. Sturt and Miss Marjorie Macfarlane defeated Morrison and Miss B. Knight respectively Bartleet and Sturt put up a good fight to lose to Morrison and A. C. Johns One of the hardest-fought men’s matches of the afternoon was the one between Wilson and Wilson, a promising Eden Epsom pair, and Lamb and Robinson, the former winning, 5—7. 6, 3—6. One of the most interesting women’s matches was one between Misses Richardson and Quill and Misses Griffen and Lowrie; cool and steady defensive work on the part of Miss Richardson and a deadly crosscourt driv. by Miss Quill gave a victory to the Remuera pair.
