BOY’S FATAL INJURIES

CRUSHED BENEATH HORSE ACCIDENT AT CLEVEDON When the horse on which Mr. John McCrae and his nine-year-old son, Ronald Frederick McCrae, were riding fell backward on them while c.limbing a hill on the father’s farm at Clevedon on Saturday, fatal injuries were received by the latter. He died at the Auckland Hospital early yesterday morning. The horse, which had no bridle and saddle, was ascending a zig-zag path when it missed its footing, and in an endeavour to right itself reared upright and fell backward on to its riders. Mr. McCrae was able to crawl to the top of the hill in a painful condition, and from there attracted the attention of a Maori boy. The boy caught the horse and Mr. McCrae mounted the horse and rode to his house and summoned Hr. J. "Wallis, of Clevedon. Both father and son were taken to the hospital, and the boy died at. 3.30 yesterday morning. The father’s condition this morning is not regarded as serious.
