ALLEGED AWARD BREACHES
EMPLOYERS’ COMMITTEE PROTESTS The question of the prosecution of several employers by the Labour Department for small alleged breaches of award was discussed at a meeting of the executive committee of the Auckland Provincial Employers’ Association on Thursday. The president, Mr. Albert Spencer, was in the chair. Attention was drawn to the nonprosecution of unions and workers who have taken part in strikes in Auckland. The strikes In connection with the stonemasons at the new railway station; the seamen on trawlers during the hearing of an industrial dispute; and the recent strike of slaughtermen at the” abattoirs were mentiond. It was decided that the following resolution be forwarded to the Minister of Labour:—“That this association enters an emphatic protest against the action of the Labour Department in prosecuting employers for alleged petty breaches of Arbitration Court awards, while the action of workers in striking in defiance of the provisions of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act itself is apparently condoned by the department.”
