“LIVE, LOVE AND LAUGH” A colourful story of an Italian immi- | grant boy in New York supplies tlie background for “Love, Live and Laugh,” Fox Movietone all talking drama starring George Jessel, coming to the Civic Theatre today. Jessel as Luigi makes a bit of “whoopee” on his accordion as part of his farewell party for David Rollins, playing the role of Pasquale Gallupi, who is leaving forv Italy to serve two years in the army. Lila Lee, Margharita,” knocks at the door, and asks him to play softly as her friend’s baby is very ill across the hall. Jessel apologises and stops his music. Later he inquires about the baby, although he’s much more interested in Lila. She is the niece of the musicstore owner, Enrico, enacted by Henry Kolker, and when Jessel gets a job there as a salesman, she sees him frequently. Their friendship ripens to love, and it is understood that they will be married when Jessel makes more money. Jessel, called back to Italy by his i father's grave illness, arrives to find his father dead. Italy having entered the war, he joins the same regiment of I which Rollins is a member. Shortly j afterward, Jessel is blinded by a shell i and taken to a hospital. Lila reads ] that his entire company has been wiped I out and when his letters abruptly stop, | believes he is dead. She enters a children’s hospital as a nurse to forget her grief over her sweetheart. Dr. Price, played by Kenneth Mac Kenna, falls in love with her. Convinced that Jessel is dead, she finally consents to marry the doctor. An excellent supporting programme will also be presented this evening. Ted Henkel’s Civic Symphony Orchestra will feature “A Shamrock Fantasy,” with Desmond Casey, the wonder boy singer, and Fred School at the grand organ will play “A Song of India” and “Romantic Nights.” The talkie featurettes will include a comedy, “His Birthday Suit,” and a Fox Movietone News.
