THE SAWDUST RING

WIRTHS’ CONTINUED SUCCESS Another packed house, or rather tent, was roused to enthusiasm over the thrills and fun of Wirths’ Circus, which continued its Auckland season on the Old Dock sit© last evening. From the triumphant entry of the elephants in the grand march to the last death-de-fying hip of the flying Lamars, the show never flags. The few minutes that elapse between each turn are given to the clowns—one tiny, one medium but fat, and the third with his head about seven feet from his toes, so tall is he In such an array of talent it is difficult to select any act for special mention. The horses, beautifully groomed and very spirited, have as much to do with the success of the show as the performers. They are wonderfully trained and do everything from complicated drill movements to posing, rigid as death, in tableaux. To see an elephant dancing a jig on a small tub is a novelty not easily forgotten, but that is only one of the things these huge but tractable beasts can do. Favourites among the performing animals were the bears, which opened the show. The Lamars, four of them, are known as the flying wonders, and their trapeze work is marvellous. They turn somersaults flying in the air and parform marvels of dexterity that could lead to disaster were they to misjudge distance by an inch or time by a second. The Arconas are balancing marvels and perform feats with a slender 30ft. pole at the end of which is Miss Arcona. The Lias troupe are tumblers and they earned the title. The strong woman, the man who falls unharmed from a pyramid of tables and heaps of other wonders go to make up a -rc.it allow. YE OLDE PIRATE SHIPPE The unique and pleasant cabaret on board Ye Olde Pirate Shippe, Milford Beach, will be the scene of a very happy.dance this evening when the usual Saturday gala carnival will be held. Ye Versatile Pirate Band will provide the music and late transport will be available as usual. DIXIELAND CABARET Another jolly dance will be Held at the ever-popular Dixieland Cabaret this evening. Dancing will be enjoyed to a late hour to the latest and brightest music played by the Dixieland Dance Band.
