Big Aintree Race has 74 Acceptors
ENGLISH GRAND NATIONAL RUN ON FRIDAY WEEK The Grand National acceptances leave the position on paper unaltered, and I take it as quite a healthy sign of the times that there are so many owners who are not intimidated by the glamour surrounding Easter Hero, writes “Augur” in the “Sporting Life” anent the big race at Aintree on March 2S. That the latter is an exceptionally good horse is generally admitted, and no performance of recent years at Liverpool has created such a favourable impression as did his last March. It revealed him to have the speed quickly to clear himself of the huge field, and to keep him at the head of affairs, even with 12st 71b up, and on very soft going, until comparatively close to the finish; and then the Tuck which ought to have been on his side after so gallant a display deserted him. His former owner had been encouraged to think that the state of the ground was the only barrier, and such disadvantage may have to be met again. Looks Better Than Ever By way of oft'-set, the horse looks better than ever, so that at ten years of age lie may now have arrived at the peak of excellence. It is easy to appreciate, however, that Gregalach, a true Liverpool type, mav, as the younger animal, have made that amount of improvement which the handicap per has speculated upon in raising him 101 b. On paper that amount of allowance for a six lengths’ beating reads overmuch when the weight has also been Put up to 12st, but Gregalach was a very late foal, and may t be accounted younger than his years. I fancy that his connections look much more hopefully upon liis immediate future than was the case at the end of last January. The allonwance to Easter Hero may tax Gregalach more than will that to Grakle, whom he beat so easily, but there is this to be taken into account: The winner of 1929 has been advanced from list 41b to 12st. while Grakle has been reduced from list 91b to list Gib. and Grakle was immensely fancied as a five-year-old, carrying lost 91b, when he was brought down.
At present these are the three with whom I am most inclined to take sides. The first acceptors were the following, the name of the owner, the horse’s age and the weights being indicated:

FINE YEARLINGS VISIT TO FLAXMERE STUD PURCHASE FOR AUCKLAND Special to THE SUN HASTINGS, Today. In company with Messrs. Cucksey and Gardes (Auckland), Matlieson (Wanganui), Reid (Hamilton) and Fisken ((Gisborne), "Abaydos" paid a visit o£ inspection to Air. Wilfred Stead’s breeding establishment at Flaxmere. Mice quality yearling, all sired *?y Leighton and booked for the next Sydney sale, were paraded. They were an even lot, no flaw being discernible in any animal. R. Fisken was greatly impressed wiili a full brother to Paletta, which he secured at a reasonable figure. As a result of the visit it is probable t.iat two other yearlings will find their way to the Auckland Province.
