The fact that Don Evans, the young Taihape athlete, was able to defeat Leo Lermond. the American star, in the 1,000 yards race at Wanganui recently in time that was three-fifths of a second below Lloyd Hahn’s New Zealand record, indicates that a newstar is arising in the Dominion’s athletic firmament. Already he has been spoken of as the coming New Zt aland champion over the half-mile course, which is to be decided at Wanganui.
