GUM STORE BURNED
BRIGADE TURNS HOSE ON CROWD LOSS AT WHANGAREI From Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Today.
Fire broke out at 10 o'clock last evening in a building; near the Regent Hall in Rathbone street, which was owned by the Farmers’ Trading Company and occupied by Mr. S. Kokich, a btSTdlng was an iron structure housing between * 500 and £6OO worth of gum and fungus. The fungus was completely destroyed and ver> hftle gum was untouched. The building was completely wrecked. .. . . The brigade had some difficulty in reaching the fire on account of the crowd which collected, and it was found necessary to turn the hose on t *'s\?r! Kokich estimates the loss at £l5O, not including the insurance on the contents, which is £ 4oo. The building is insured for £4OO.
