INQUIRY INTO ACT TO BE UNDERTAKEN COMMITTEE APPOINTED Press Association WELLINGTON, Thursday. The investigation of the Workers Compensation Act, with a view to removing the present anomalies evolving possible improvements in the general conditions, is to be undertaken by a committee. The Minister of Labour, the Hon. "W. A. Veitch, stated today that the committee will comprise members oi Parliament and also outside representatives of the interests directly concerned. It will comprise Mr. S. G. Smith. M.P. for Taranaki. Chairman of Committees of the House of Representatives. who will be chairman; Mr. J. T. Hogan. M.F. for Rangitikei; Mr. T. H. Armstrong, M.P. for Christchurch East; Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P. for j Masterton: Mr. J. H. Jerram, general j manager of the State Fire and Accident Insurance Department; Mr, Arthur Seed, representing the 1 Zealand Employers’ Federation; Mr. G. J. A. Kerruish. representing _ the un- . derwriters’ Association of New Zea- , land: Mr. T. Bloodworth (Auckland), representing the Labour organisations, and the Secretary of the Labour Department, Mr. W. Newton. “Numerous attempts have been made by private members’ Bills to bring about changes In the workers compensation system,” remarked Mr. Yeltch. “and representations have been made to me from time to time by Labcur organisations asking for alterations and improvements in the Workers Compensation Act. As this is a very complicated problem it requires to be handled with discretion and with a full knowledge of all the points of view and conditions. The committee had been asked to make recommendations to the Government with a view’ to preparing legislation for the forthcoming session. The Minister mentioned that the Shops and Offices Act is also being overhauled and will be the subject or an amending measure. The present Position is that this legislation is also to be investigated by a representat ve r ommittee, shortly to be announced. Jtr. F. Murdoch, M.P. for Marsden, will * e chairman.
