HISTORIC CATHEDRAL
Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the world’s most picturesque and famed churches, which was erected by Louis XI of France in the 13th Century, was recently reproduced in Hollywood. The interior of the mammoth cathedral forms one of the many lavish settings for Paramount’s all-colour, singing romance, “The Vagabond King,” starring Dennis King. The enormous setting, which was one of the largest ever to be constructed in the film city, was designed by Hans Dreir, noted European architect. The colour scheme was worked out carefully to express the deep spiritual quality of the historic place of worship. The walls and pillars were” done in a peculiar dark gray-green which harmonises and yet contrasts with the gold and silver hues of the altar. Filmed entirely in colour, “The Vagabond King” brings the full beauty of the colour combinations to the screen.
