TROTTING

SPORT AT_HASTINGS I OPENING DAY TOMORROW the card reviewed HASTINGS, Thursday. The annual fixture of the Hawke’s gay Trotting Club opens tomorrow, and will conclude on Monday. Good | fields are engaged. and interesting racing should be witnessed. The form shown at Ashhurst on Wednesday will give backers some conception of the prospects of candidates which raced there. Manawatu winners have been penalised for their successes, but in ! some instances this should not detract from their prospects of winning further money. A review of the field by "Abaydos” is appended: Novice Handicap Golden Oaks gave an impressive ; showing on Wednesday, and will im- : prove, while Highland I>erby, if ready ' will give trouble. Teri King! is ‘a possibility, and Rangihau must be re- \ spected despite liis 48yds penalty. I Inverness has a fine chance. Favour- j i:es may be Inverness, Golden Oaks and Highland Derby. Havelock Handicap Parrish Belle. Ockley Wood, and ! Tinora. place-getters at Ashhurst, will have most friends. Pilot isa useful sort, and looks like giving trouble to his rivals. Although penalised 12yds the Auckland filly Parrish Belle wili he favourite over Ockley Wood and Tinora. Napier Handicap Bingen Spiers may go better in the small field, and if so, will have a good chance of success. Manco, a young Peterwah product, may spring a surprise, but Bonniewah, Good Lady and Sister Chris will be hard to keep out of the money. Fancies will l»o Bonniewah, Sister Chris, and Manco. Hawke’s Bay Cup This should provide a splendid con- i test. Gumdigger was sore at Ashhurst. but Sir Guy went a good race. All Red is likely to skow up well, and Pavlova, if started, will add interest to the race. Lady Author has earned 12 yards penalty for her fine effort at Ashhurst. but she will still have a big following. If Arachne goes right she will be handy, and Gang Awa is a possibility. Hilltop is useful, but the public may go most for Lady Author, Sir Guy and Gang Awa. Hastings Handicap Highland Derby, Bingen Spiers. Muriel Thorpe, Teri Kingi and Roland, off the front, will shape well. Only penalised 24 yards Inverness (if reserved) will be better favoured than Roland and Highland Derby. Stewards’ Handicap The field is small but tricky. Pilot comes in well on the limit, wlyle if kept for this heat Parrish Belle should go well. Rosie Nelson gained friends

by her showing on Wednesday and will be hard to beat. Brian Bingen looks well in, if he goes right, while Nelson Parrish in the weak field should be dangerous. Pavourites may be Pilot and Rosie Nelson. March Handicap After his fine display at Ashhurst Little Guy, if kept for this item, will be most in demand, but Cairn Brae is in good form. Penalised 48 yards, St. George will still lie a nuisance, while Ngahuia cannot be counted out. Best backed may be Little Guy, St. George and Ngahuia. Karamu Handicap In the final event, the Karamu Handicap, Peter Lloyd will be dangerous oil the limit. Mountain Princess is going to be handy and Sir Guy, if escaping a penalty, looks to hold a rare chance. Pavlova’s consistency will keep her friends with her.
