Many Northerners Engaged at Trentham
! The usual class fields will be seen I out at Trentham tomorrow and on Monday on the occasion of the autumn i meeting of the Wellington Racing u lub. j and a hard track should be in favour |of fast times. Auckland stables are j very strongly represented and it would I occasion no surprise if they did remarkably well at Trentham. The Big Event The main item on tomorrow’s card is the Thompson Handicap, which has 19 horses left in. Those that would appear to have good chances are Concentrate, Mervette, Red Heckle. A ertigern, Great Charter, Eaglet, White Fang. Roval Saxon, The Hawk, j Taneriri, Paitonu, My Own and Te I Awhina. Of this number the half dozen that make most appeal are Red Heckle. Great Charter. Eaglet, White Fang, Taneriri and My Own. It is going to be the usual keen contest, with horses endowed with sufficient speed to keep them out of trouble having a good deal in their favour. The Classics There are two classic events on the opening day’s card, the St. Leger and the Challenge Stakes. The three-year-old contest will be contested by a small field, perhaps of one-dividend proportions. There seems to be little doubt that the Riccarton juvenile Waterline will be the favourite, and the most danger to be offered the Chokebore representative may come from Vali and Jaleux. Once again those two rare sprinters, Paganelli and Cimabue, will be in opposition, this time in the Challenge Stakes. With a dry track Paganelli seems certain to account for the Leighton gelding, for their weights are 9.8 and 10.1 respectively, Cimabue having gained the full penalty. There are s, few smart two-year-olds in the field, however, and they may bother Paganelli. Among them are Tenterden, Chrysology, Cylinder and Dunraven, and the pick of them may be Cylinder. However, he may not beat Paganelli. The Sprinters The Railway Handicap does not appear to have drawn the same class of horse as in the past. This may be an erroneous impression, but that is the general opinion. This is accounted for probably by the fact that the big handicap is run over a mile and the Challenge Stakes over a furlong less, which really makes three big sprints on the first day’s card. There will be a lot of money for Valuation, a speedy fellow from the Waikato who at his last start easily defeated Eaglet, and even allowing for the 221 b concession in weight he was receiving, it is doubtful if the positions would have been reversed had there been a stone less separating them. The consistent Meadow Lark, Richfield, Aspiring, Royal Saxon, Moa Bird, First Money, Goblin Market, Limosin, Flair, Hunting Day and Royal Duke all have chances, but with 7.6, Valuation will have to have lost a lot

It will be remembered ! that Valuation spreadeagled the hack ! sprinters on this course twelve months ! ago. and a repetition would not surI prise.
