There was a big improvement in every way this morning, the weather being bright and mild and there was some interesting work. On the plough Glare ran a mile in 1.46 4-5, going very well. Waterline was better than Full Feather over seven in 1.33 1-5, and Paquito and Arikiwai ran four in 51 4-5. Limosin covered four up the back in 51, the first three in 37, a good effort. Hurly Burly and Ball Dress also ran four up the back in 51. Taneriri and Pedestal left four furlongs behind in 54. Vali beat Paitonu, with Airtight several lengths back, over six in 1.19 1-5, the last four in 53. Havaspot comfortably ran four in 52 3-5, and Great Charter strode out in pace work. Wenday covered an easy six in 1.27, and Valuation did good solid pace work. He looks very well. Eaglet covered the last four of five, going easily, in 51. Smart Sprint Moa Bird ran four in 50, the last three in 37, a first-class effort. On the grass, which was much faster than the plough, Vertigern ran five in 1.4, the last three in 39. He went easily in the early part. Chrysology and Rapallo ran four in 49 1-5. Paganelli, apparently going well within himself, ran his first furlong in 12, the two in 26 and the last half-mile in 47, his six furlongs taking 1.13. White Fang and In the Shade pleased by working a solid six furlongs in 1.15, the last three in 36. The Hawk, whose appearance does not please, ran five in 1.5, the last four in 51 The Two-Year-Olds On the course proper, from the halfmile start, Chief Joy, Appledore and Hard Words finished together. all going well. Merry Cry, Autopay and Gold Sands were also on terms at the end of a similar task, with Autopay doing best. Tenterden finished well clear of Awaken, with Grey Linnet several

lengths back, at the end of a similar journey. After breakfast Lucretia and Jason did easy exercise on the plough, and Latin Quarter and Paris executed solid work on the same track. My Own, on the trial grass, ran an easy five in 1.5 1-5, the last four in 51. Jenny Diver went to the half-mile post on the course proper and strode down leisurely. Hunting Day’s Special Hunting Day, on the outside of the course proper, a special gallop, ran three in 39 and did it well. Cylinder, on the extreme outside of the course proper, ran five in 1.4 1-5. Love Song went with him for the first three furlongs and was then pulled up. High Society was too good for Joic de Val over six on the trial grass in 1.15*. Star Stranger, ofi the outside of the course proper, picked up by Don Quixtot© at the six furlongs, ran a mil© in 1.44 2-5. He took 53 2-5 for the first half and then ran the last half in 51. KELSO KILLED INJURY PROVES FATAL Subsequent to a schooling bout at Ellerslie on Tuesday, Kelso was found to have chapped a tendon badly, leaving the tracks in a very sorrow state. Veterinary attention was gained, but little could be done for the horse and this morning he was destroyed. v Kelso, who formed one of R. E. Brown’s team, had completed plenty of schooling lessons, but he failed to show anything out of the ordinary.
