PRESENTATIONS
An enjoyable evening was spent in the Takanini Hall on Thursday when a social was given by the residents of the district to Mr. and Mrs. Haughey. Mr. Haughey has retired after 43 years’ service with the Education Board, the last seven years as head teacher of Takanini School. Mr. Jones, chairman of the School Committee, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr. Haughey with an easy chair and Mrs. Plaughey with a piano stool.
Bouquets were presented to Mrs. and Miss Haughey by Miss R. Peploe and Miss J. Bartell.
Mr. Haughey suitably responded. Airs. J. Brown presented Mr. Haughey with a volume of Shakespeare’s poems in recognition of the esteem in which he was held bv her children. Musical items were ‘given by the following: Mr. AA'alker. violin solo: Miss McLackie, recitations; Miss Duffin, song; Mesdames Peploe and Miller, duet: Miss Brown, club-swing-ing. School children under Miss Delaney gave songs and recitations. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing, Messrs. AA'alker’s orchestra supplying the music.
