WARSHIP RETURNING
DUNEDIN LEAVES APIA FOR AUCKLAND SAMOANS RETURN HOME Special to P.A. by Radio APIA, Thursday. For several days past marines and police have been active returning by motor and launch more than 1,000 Samoans to coastal villages of Upolo and Savaii. The work has now been completed, and the cruiser Dunedin will leave after 9 o’clock today for Auckland. It is reported that 25 marines will be left at Apia and will be stationed near Vaimoso, which is now practically deserted except for women and children.
On Tuesday Chief Tuimalealiifano was charged with participating in activities- encouraging a continuance of and expressing approval of a seditious organisation, and was convicted and lined £3.
Lance-Corporal District Officer Ricketts was charged with manslaughter relative to the death of the Samoan Molia, who was wounded in an affray with the police on January 22, and who died on January 27. The case will be heard on Wednesday next. The Moth plane was damaged while being placed on the Dunedin. One mechanic was injured when he fell backward, his head striking an iron stanchion ladder.
