ROBBED HIS CLIENTS

BRISBANE SOLICITOR GETS FOURTEEN YEARS PROFESSION INJURED BRISBANE, Thursday. Robert McGowan, a well-known Brisbane solicitor, was convicted today on several charges of stealing his clients’ funds. He was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment. Mr. Justice Macrossan described accused as an utterly unprincipled and unscrupulous man. He said his conduct had struck a serious blow at the honour of the legal profession, but the public had no grounds for panic. His Honour suggested the strengthening of the safeguards under the Trust Accounts Act. It was stated that McCowan’s liabilities amounted to £34,000.
