MANAWATU TROTS
LOGAN’S PRIDE SURPRISES PARRISH BELLE A WINNER Special to THE SUX PALMERSTON N., Wednesday. In sultry weather, before a large attendance, ti Manawatu Trotting i 'lub's fixture ""us stugod ut Ashhurst todav. The track was in splendid order, .several last times being recorded. Lady Author, in the slow two miles, went a rick unde- 4.40 from a 4.51 mark and lias come an to favour for the Hawke's Bay Cup on Saturday. The meeting early began to lag, and at the end of the day events were about an hour behind time. The machine handled £8.354, against .£9,000 last March. Ladies’ Bracelet Bingen Spears, a good favourite, refused to strike a gait, and gave a sorry exhibition afterward. Inverness, second choice, went out first from a poor dispatch. followed by Von, Mount Logan and Daphne Locanda, the rest being at sixes and sevens. Inverness was well clear for half of the journey, but Mount Logan closed up at the back and headed the Te Awamutu gelding, but broke badly. Von chased Inverness into the straight, and could make no impression, and under punishment just held on to keep Mount Logan out of second money by a neck. Eight lengths back came Daphne Wildwood, with Atholwey heading the rest. The Englishman. F. Smith, drove the winner, a well-judged race. Linton Handicap The field went away well in the Linton Handicap. Finora leading from Wee Bess, who broke before the stand was reached, leaving Ockley Wood trailing the leader, with Finora and Parrish Bello following. Along the back Finora broke, Ockley Wood heading the Corrigan candidate, with Parrish Relic, a warm favourite, trotting splendidly in third place. Finora put in a run to lead the Auckland fillv into the straight, Ockley Wood and Octachord being at the head of the others. Lee waited on the leader at the half distance, when he took charge, and despite a strong finish by Ockley Wood the three-year-old won nicely by half a length. Finora was third, a length and a-half away, followed by Brian Bingen and Octachord. Stewards Handicap Lady Author was a hot fancy for tr a Stewards Handicap, and was early ir,. second position. She trailed the leader till half way up the straight, where she came away to win easily. Golden Oaks was the early leader, the well-backed Lomar breaking badly twice after the start and dropping well back. Richmond Lass was the pacemaker from Lady Author at the end of a mile, with Golden Oaks, Lomar and Mountain Princess all in the picture. At the homo turn Richmond Lass and Lady Author were together well clear of Mountain Princess, the favourite doing best in the run home. Mountain Princess stopped in the straight, to get third berth live lengths away, with a big gap to Lomar and Golden Oaks. Manawatu Plate \
Sir Guy and Pavlova were best backed for the Manawatu Plate, the winner turning up in the little-fan-cied Logan’s Pride, who paid nearly double figures. Sir Guy was the early leader, but before the half mile was reached in 1.14. Cora Jacks was piloting Nelsonian, Sailor Boy, Sir Guy and Pavlova. There was no change when the mile was negotiated in 2.24, and along the back the order was: Cora Tacks, Nelsonian, Sir Guy and Pavlova, with Logan’s Pride astride of the hunch. Sir Guy and Pavlova moved up approaching the straight. Cora Tacks still being in command. Once straigthened up the favourite headed Fora Tacks and Pavlova put in her claim. The pair were fighting out a desperate finish when Logan’s Pride, wide out, fashed up to score a clearcut length victory from Sir Guy, with Pavlova a length and a-half back third. Three lengths away Cora Tacks was just in trout of Wakefield. Nelsonian and Queen Elizabeth. Richore lost ground at the start and never threatened danger. Longburn Handicap Lomar, favourite for the Longburn Handicap, again jigged on the mark, losing all hope of success. Little Guy and Drift Wave went away in front by themselves and at the end of a mile had 30 lengths clear from Mount Logan, with Lomar making up ground. Crossing the top Little Guy raced away from Drift Wave to win easing up by a length and a-half. Six lengths back came the favourite, followed at intervals by Mount Logan, Kevin Brae, Tawa King and Musical. Pohangina Handicap St. George was a hot pot for the Pohangina Handicap, and confidently driven by C. Donald won on the steel. Kevin Brae, going more kindly than in the previous race, was soon in the lead from Von. with a gap to Electric Gold and St. George. The favourite moved up fast along the back to within striking distance ofc Kevin Brae. Kevin Brae made a great attempt to overhaul the favourite, who held an advantage of a length comfortably at the post. Richmond Lass was four lengths back third, followed by Zealous, Von and Baron Derby (.who failed badly). Palmerston North Trot In a good pool on the Palmerston North Trot Rangitero was a shade better favourite than Nelson Parrish, hut neither paid a dividend, Audo Spray and Peter Eyre finishing in front of them. Nelson Parrish soon hit the front from Peter Eyre, RanKitero, and Rosie Nelson, this being the order over the first circuit. Along the back the field bunched, but Nelson Parrish had a slight advantage over the favourite at the home turn, with Peter Byre and Audo Spray handy. Rangitero broke under pressure and Audo Spray, finishing in solid style, won nicely by three lengths. Peter Eyre camp through in the straight to head off the tiring Nelson Parrish for second money. Rangitero was close up fourth. Before the start Brian Bingen capsized driver Orange arid galloped a circuit before stopped. He was riever Prominent in the race. President’s Handicap Pavlova and Logan’s Pride were best backed in the iTesident’s Handicap. leaving the third selection. Queen Elizabeth, at a wonderful and false Price. At the end of a furlong the Hawera. mare was in front from Halmore and Pavlova, and at the halfj*ule post Cora Tacks and Logan’s fride were in the picture. Queen Elizabeth was first into the straight, although Pavlova and then Logan’s Pride challenged she kept fnera off to win by over a length from Logan’s Pride. Pavlova was third two lengths back, and Halmore, Sailor Boy And Gumdigger were next to arrive. Following are the results: Ladies' Bracelet, of £BS; 3.45 class: 12 miles.—2 Inverness, limit, F.
