GARDEN FETE

LADY ORFORD OFFICIATES AT OTAHUHU FUNCTION With well-filled stalls dotted over the lawns, the Otahuhu vicarage grounds presented an animated scene yesterday afternoon and evening, when the members of the Ladies’ Guild held a successful garden fete. The proceeds are to be devoted to the beautifying of the Otahuhu Anglican Church grounds.

In introducing the Countess of Orford, the Rev. C. B. W. Seton extended a cordial welcome to the large number present, and thanked them for the|r attendance and sympathy with such a worthy object. In a few happy words the Countess of Orford congratulated the members of the guild on the successful function. After declaring the fete open, the countess received a beautiful bouquet from Mrs. H. Hall. A round of visits was then paid to the various stalls. Keen interest was taken by the countess in tli© baby show, which attracted a large number of entries. The judges were Lady Carrick Robertson and Dr. A. C. Purchas. Lady Robertson presented the winners with their trophies, as follows: Boy under six months, Ropald Philip; girl under six months, Helen Rintoul; boy under 12 months, Ray Wilkinson and Francis Taylor (tied); girl under 12 months, Melva Ellery and June Ryan (tied); boy under 18 months, Douglas French; girl under 18 months, Pamela Baildon; boy under two years, Alan Collins; girl under two years, Audrey Higgens. The stalls were in charge of Mrs. Walters, Mrs. Fenton, Mrs. F. McDell, Mrs. H. Moore, lollie stall; Mrs. H. Hall, Miss Webb,. Mrs. Capp, Mrs. Grade, Mrs. Hillyard, Miss Robertson, sewing stall; Mrs. S. Whitmore, Mrs. Cox, Mrs. Lovell, Mrs. Day, Mrs. Mouton, Mrs. Woods, Mrs. Jamieson, cake stall; Mrs. Davis, Mrs. W. West, Mrs. C. West Mrs. Gray, and Mrs. Matthews.
