RETURNS TO MOTHER’S FARM PROBATION FOR THEFT With a record of two years in Borstal, and two years on probation, ihough he is only 21 years of age. Walter Edward I>ove was again placed on probation when he appeared at the Police Court this morning for sentence on two charges of theft. Love, a vulcaniser, had pleaded guilty to the theft of jewellery and 20 gramophone records, valued at £34 325, belonging to Lydia Sarah Elizabeth Williamson, on January 13, at Point Chevalier. He also admitted stealing from Jessie Rawlinson, on January 29. a portable gramophone and 15 records valued at £ls 10s. Mr. Sullivan, for accused, said he had asked for a remand so that Dr. Casement Aickin could give evidence of the young man’s health. He was really subnormal. "I am daring to ask for another chance,” counsel added. "Love's mother is here in court, and she would take him back to her husband’s farm at Whangarei.” "He has had two years in Borstal, iand two years on probation,” commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. “What do you think about it, Mr. Campbell?” Mr. Campbell, probation officer: I was going to suggest, that he be sent hack to the Borstal, but if he can go on a farm I would recommend a further term of probation. "If it is not satisfactory, we can hring him up again,” agreed the magisirate. "It he comes to town, treat it »s a breach of his probation.” Love was admitted to probation for two years, and ordered to make restitution of £29 16s.
