PERSONAL. —Mr. J. L. Webb- ha? been appointed to succeed the ]ate Mr: W T. Appleton as chairman and managingdirector of Hud dart-Parker, Ltd. Mr. Webb has been associated with the company for 43 years. He is a son of the late Captain Thomas Webb, one of the founders of the business. Mr. Webb’s promotion left a vacancy on the directorate, and the new director is Mr. P. W. Faulkner, who for some years has held an important executive position with the company.
THE MARAMA.—The Union Company’s passenger - steamer is to be dispatched for Sydney at 3 p.m. on Friday. THE TOFU A.—The Union Company advises that its Island passenger steamer Tot'ua was to leave Suva at noon this day for Auckland. j KAITUNA UNDOCKED.—The Union Company’s steamer Kaituna undocked at 3 0.30 o’clock this morning- and berthed at King’s Wharf. RANGITOTO’S NEW TRlP.—The’ Northern Company advises that the Rangitoto is to be tried on an excursion trip to Surfdale next Sunday. She is to leave at 9.50 a.m. for the Waiheke port. CUMBERLAND DELAYED.—The New Zealand Shipping- Company advises that the Cumberland is now scheduled to leave Wellington on March 15 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow, via the Panama Canal. RONA SAILS TODAY.—The Colonial Sugar Refining Company’s steamer Rona, which has been discharging her cargo of raw sugar from Suva at Chelsea, is now to leave Auckland at 4 p.m. todav ior Sydney. KALINGO LEAVES MELBOURNE.— The Union Company advises that the Kalmgo left Melbourne on Monday for Sydney, Newcastle and Port Chalmers to load for Auckland, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Picton and Greymouth. KAIMIRO COMING.—The Union Company’s cargo steamer Kaimiro arrived at Picton from Wellington at 7 a.m. today, and leaves there at ten o’clock tonight for Auckland, in continuation of her voyage from Adelaide, Edithburg, Wallaroo and Hobart. TOTARA RECOMMISSIONS. The Anchor Company’s steamer Totara, under charter to the Union Company, which has been laid up at the Patent Slip at Wellington for a few weeks, recommissioned on Monday and left for Tarakolie. MELBOURNE PASSENGER SERVICE —The Union Company’s inter-colonial passenger steamer Maheno is scheduled to leave Melbourne for Wellington, via Bluff, Dunedin and Lyttelton at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning. She is due at Wellington on March 21. ROTORUA SAILED.—To fill up with cargo for England the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua sailed for Wellington yesterday afternoon. With passengers and mail she is scheduled to leave Wellington for Southampton and London on Saturday. MIDDLESEX’S MOVEMENTS.—The New Zealand Shipping Company reports that the Middlesex is now to leave Brisbane on March 13 for PiGton, where she is due on March 18 to commence loading for Rotterdam, Hamburg and London. She will subsequently load at Bluff, Lyttelton, Wellington and Napier. She leaves again on Monday to complete the work of attending the buoys and beacons in the Gulf before proceeding to northern lighthouses. RECORD CANAL TRANSIT.—Making the passage through the Panama Canal in less than seven hours the Red Star liner Belgenland, which is the largest liner that has ever passed through the waterway, on December 2S established a record. The customary time of i assaga from Colon t<> Balboa is from eight to nine Hours. This is her sixth transit of the Panama Canal. BRISBANE A PORT OF CALL F OR P. AND O.—Tin Peninsula and oriental Line will make Brisbane .Australia, a port of call in its tri-weekly service between Australia and if.- United Kingdom. The five vessels in its service have been converted into oil burners and their speed increased to 154 knots. The vessels which previously were routed via Capetown now will proceed to the United Kingdom via Colombo, Port Said and Alalta.
