CANADA’S £I,OOO ALLOTTED TO ROWING EIGHT OTHER SPORTS GIVE SHARE j Press Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The British Empire Games’ Committee decided this evening that the £I,OOO given by Canada toward the cost* of sending a New Zealand team of athletes to compete at the games at Hamilton, Ontario, next August, be allotted to the equipment and expenses of the Dominion rowing eight. It was stated that other branches of sport had forgone their share of the money in order to make it possible to send a rowing eight.
SWIMMING TEAM’S TRIP
SUPPORT FROM CANTERBURY Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. At a meeting tonight of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association it was decided to support the proposal to send swimmers to the Empire Games in Canada. No guarantee of funds was given, but the centre decided to reply to the New Zealand Swimming Association’s inquiry on the subject that it would do everything possible to raise the necessary funds and -was confident of success.
