SMASH AT AVONDALE

MOTORS COLLIDE ON BEND PASSENGERS ESCAPE INJURY Colliding on The Great North Road near the city end of Avondale at about 7.30 a.m. today a motor-car and a motor-lorry were badly damaged, but no one was hurt. The driver of the lorry, Mr. 'VV. Nichcison, said he was proceeding toward Avondale ykhen, on turning: the halfbend to enter the township, his steering gear locked, and he collided with a heavy car driven by Mr. J. O. Gardner, of New Lynn, who was on his way into town. Three other men were in the car. but no one an as injured. Both vehicles were extensively damaged. The right front wheel of the lorry was smashed, the chassis badly Lent, and the mudguard and bonnet ripped off. The back wheel of the car was shattered. the running board -mashed, and the front and back mudguards crumpled.
