EMPRESS NEWTON

Betty Compson, the well-known actress who appeared to advantage in many silent productions, has the title role in “Street Girl,” the excellent talkie which is now delighting audiences at the Empress Theatre, Newton. Miss Compson is cast as a pretty street waif who is adopted by a little band of struggling musicians in an east side Hungarian cafe in New York. In. this squalid atmosphere she meets a European prince while playing the violin in the orchestra. The young leader, who secretly loves her, resents the prince’s intrusion and quarrels with him. All difficulties are eventually smoothed away satisfactorily, however ,and the film ends happily with the lovers established in a successful night club of their own. John Harr on, Ned Sparks and Jack Oakie appear in subsidiary roles.
