LOANS TO SCHOOLS FOR NATURE STUDY AUCKLAND ARRANGEMENTS A small committee of headmasters is to co-operate with the Auckland Museum staff in preparing collections of exhibits from that institution for loan to city and suburban primary schools to aid pupils iu the study of nature and other subjects. This plan was agreed upon in conference between the museum authorities and the Headmasters’ Association executive, yesterday. The museum president, Mr. H. E. Vaile, declared that the aim had always been to help the schools and with the facilities now available it was proposed to take the children to the museum and the museum to the children. Two cases of natural history exhibits, labelled and with glass fronts were exhibited by the curator, Mr. Gilbert Archey. Descriptive leaflets to assist the teacher in giving the lesson, accompanied the exhibits. Mr. A. W. B. Powell, Mr. L. T. Griffin and Miss L. M. Cranwell, of the museum staff, detailed the plans for loan exhibits from the conchology, zoology and botany departments. Arrangements were made for small parties of teachers to be conducted through the museum on appointed afternoons, by members of the staff The teachers will thereby gain some idea of the extent of the collections, and will be able to make suggestions for loan exhibits. In thanking the museum authorities, Mr. F. A. Garry promised full cooperation in the scheme.
