BEEF EASIER WESTFIELD STOCK SALE WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m Beef showed a further decline at the Westfield fat stock sale today, despite the fact that the aggregate entry was below t - c of recent weeks. Best your steer beef made up to 38s a I idred; best heifer and young c / beef made up to 34s a hundr ; plain and secondary cow, fro. 23s to 30s a hundred. The principal reason for .e fall in prices was the withdrawal <_. overseas buyers’ support. Export schedule rates have dropped back to a top price of 35s a hundred on the hooks for best beef, compared with 37s a fortnight ago. Today exporters bought practically nothing and as a result an aggregate offering of approximately 389 steers and 321 cows and heifers was dependant on the local demand. The steer entry was made up almost entirely of summer-weights, steers around 6001bs, and the average price for the section would not have exceeded £l2. Graziers from all parts of the province contributed to the offering, North Auckland as well as Waikato vendors being well represented. Top price of the day was secured for a line of heavy prime bullocks on account H. E. Reed, Waerenga, which made up to £l6 5s for an extra heavy prime pen, which went to T. Baster, Ponsonby. A line of 18 good quality mediumweight cattle on account of J. McIntyre, Funi, averaged £l3. Nine handy weight steers on account W. FI intow, Ongarue, averaged £l2 13s lid. Sixteen steers on account Edward Allen, Cambridge, averaged £l2 13s 7d. The market was essentially a highweight day and less than half a dozen lines averaged more than £l2 10s. Medium-weight steers made from £l2 5s to £l3 10s; light and small from £8 10s to £ll 10s. Extra choice prime heifers made to £l2; ordinary heavy prime cows and heifers; £8 15s to £lO ss; medium, £7 to £8 10s; , light and small, £5 15s to £6 17s 6d; unfinished, from £4. Calves met with a rather erratic demand, but- prices were little different to last week’s. Good vealers made up to £4 15s; good runners to £7 10s. An average entry of fat sheep was made up of a very mixed assortment. Opening prices showed no change on late rates.
