WAITEMATA HOLDS SOUND POSITION GRAMMAR JUST BEATEN In what was virtually the deciding game in the Auckland Water Pu'o Control Board’s 1929-30 competition. Waitemata A won by a poal to nii from Grammar at the Waitemata owimming < ’lub's carnival at th* Tepid Baths last evening. The game was hotly fought and wa* highly interesting, in spite of the interference practised by several players. Mr. L. Brighton, the referee, was compelled to enforce the rules firmly. A win to Grammar would have meant that Waitemata A, Ponsonby A and Grammar would be equal in championship points Waitemata is now icadin? easily. Fast play ruled from the beginning t dodged KronfeM to mak* the first scoring attempt, but be missed the goalmouth. Farnell replied tor Grammar and got the ball in the net but no goal was allowed as tli? ball had been carried under water. Lindsay and Enwright tried several times to score for Waitemata and Farnell flua. several shots for Grammar, but thew was no score at half-time. Immediately in the second spell Er* wright threw the ball from Tjalf-war. but Hanna knocked it out cf the Grammar was penalised in a second or so and Enwright gained the winnin; score. "Waitemata had the better oi the play for the rest of the game, which ended with the score unchanged. Tk* teams were: aitemata A.—Fairgray. Enwrijfci. Lindsay. Hedges, Leask, Cunnold snd Honey-field. Grammar.— Hanna. Bridsor. Hyauia* son, Walter Batty, Kronfeld Faroe. and Bassett.
