Fast and willing play was seen in the first chukka, both teams putting a vim into their work that was a treat to witness. Towsend scored for Matangi. Toward the end of the spell Te Awamutu. by clever hitting and fast riding, reached the northern goal, and Dick Kay’s pony in a quick turn fell heavily and broke its neck, the rider being unhurt. In the following chukka Townsend and Shaw increased the Matangi total to 3, and from a magnificent long drive, and brilliant gallop, Dick Kay scored. In the following round Shaw scored, and Chitty essayed a fine shot and run downfield, but was cleverly ridden off by L. Kay. J. In the final round strenuous play was seen and scores went to the credit of Townsend and Ranstead, Matangi thus winning by 8 to 3. Mr. Blennerhassett controlled the play.
