REFORM LEADER URGES CITIZENS CURE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT Special to THE sty CHRISTCHURCH, Today. The problem of unemployment would be solved, in tiie opinion of the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Deader of the Opposition, if all citizens bought their share of New Zealand-made goods and thus stimulated local industries. In a letter to,Mr. A. F. Stacey, of Christchurch, whose recent report on unemployment attracted attention, Mr. Coates says: We are both keen and anxious to help in setting the course most likely to give immediate relief and at the same time not increase the burden the people will have to bear in the future. lam sure a great measure of reiief would follow if our citizens would help our local industries by buymg New Zealand-made products. This will appeal to all true New Zealanders if they can realise that by buying New Zealand-made goods a great stimulus must follow—a greater output, more employment and less imports. ‘‘The slogan must he ‘Buy New Zealand goods and make more work for New Zealanders.’ These thoughts in no way contravene our duty to the Motherland or the Empire. If the goods required every day cannot be purchased at a reasonable price made in New Zealand, our next duty is to purchase British-made goods and articles. A whole-hearted, determined effort on the part of ail to help by buying our home-made requirements will go a long way in helping thousands of workmen and women who are now up against it.”
