WAIPA RETAINS SHIELD From Our Own Correspondent TE AWAMCTU, Today. Waipa met Taumarunui in a challenge match for the South Auckland Shield on Saturday, a drawn game resulting in Waipa retaining the shield, although the honours were decidedly in favour of Taumarunui. The latter won the toss, and compiled 264 for four wickets, when the innings was declared closed. Winger (retired), 100; Holford, 63; Gibbons, 54; N. Thomas, 21. Waipa had three hours in which to exceed the visitors’ total. They compiled 186 when time was called— Shepherd, 4S; Oram, 51; Barnett 44Winter, 12: and Mexted, 10, being top scorers. During the tea adjournment, the visitors were welcomed by tile Mayor, and at the conclusion of the match Mr. R. Lord thanked them for their exhibition of good cricket. Mr Winger replied.
