CONGREGATIONAL UNION

SPECIAL SERVICES HELD CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES “Union Sunday” was observed yesterday by the annual conference of the Congregational Union of New Zealand, delegates addressing large congregations in various churches. The annual service of the Young Worshippers’ League was held in the Beresford Street Church in the morning, when the chairman of the union, the Rev. Frank de Lisle, spoke on “Christ’s Cure for Trouble.” About 116 prizes were distributed for constant church attendances. In the afternoon a Bible Class rally was held, an address being given by Mr. J. Abernethy, of Dunedin. A large congregation attended in the evening when the Rev. D. Gardner Miller, of Christchurch, preached on “A Stranger at the Door." The sermon was based on the Book of Revelations, the speaker stating that the time was approaching when there would be launched a remarkable religious movement. Business sessions were held on Saturday morning, and delegates were taken for a motor drive in the afternoon This evening a young people’s missionary demonstration will be held when items will be given by children from the various Congregational Sunday Schools. The Rev. H. W Newell will speak on “New Worlds for Old.” Tomorrow evening Mr. Miller will speak on “The Need to Relight the Lamp of the Reformation.” The conference will be concluded on Wednesday evening when a united communion service will be conducted. The annual sermon will be preached by the Rev. A. Mead, of Dunedin.
