PANAMA SHAKEN.-The isthmus of Panama was shaken on Saturday night by an earthquake which lasted 45 seconds. It was the worst tremor felt since 1914. It is not expected that canal traffic will be affected. XPW DANISH CONSUL.—Mr. George Hoest has been appointed Danish Consul-General for Australia and New Zealand. He will reside at Sydney, where he is to replace Mr. O. Lunn, who has been transferred to Shanghai. POLICE COLLEGE MOOTED. —A scheme has been drawn up by Mr. J. R. Clynes, Home Secretary, and adopted in principle by the Police Council, providing for the establishment of a Police College. It is proposed that men of outstanding ability, and with the necessary qualifications, shall attend a two years’ course at such a college, and so tit themselves for the highest posts in the police service. The Police Council is exploring the i possibilities o£ the achem*.
