KAIHU VALLEY DRAINAGE
GRANT TO COMPLETE SCHEME From Our Own Correspondent DARGAYILLE, Friday. A grant of £1,500 to enable the completion of the Kaihu Valley drainage scheme by the making of a fourth cut at the top end of the present contract has been approved by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. A. Ransom. Advice to this effect was received at the Hobson county office from the Right Hon. J. G. Coates. The grant is made as a result of a request to the Minister by representatives of the Kaihu Valley Drainage Board. It was explained to the Minister by the deputation that the loan and subsidy would not cover the cost of the proposed No. 4 cut extension through Roberts’s property, without which flood waters would not be removed from the fiats quickly enough to make the drainage scheme effective, j On these grounds, a grant of £1.500 was requested of the Minister. The i further cut will be approximately 45 I chains in length.
