SEASON EXTENDED

SECOND CONCERT BY MR. JOHN DUNN Because of the extraordinary success of his recital in Auckland on Thursday evening, the warmth of the welcome accorded him, and the obvious desire of music-lovers to hear more of his unique work, Mr. John Dunn, the English violinist, has decided to give a second recital in the Town Hall Concert Chamber. This concert will be given next Thursday evening, when the programme will include Tschaikowsky’s great concerto. It may be said with sincerity that Mr. Dunn has made this work his own. When he played it under the baton of Hans Richter, the famous conductor pronounced Mr. Dunn’s interpretation as the finest he had ever conducted. In addition Mr. Dunn will play the noted Tartini’s “Devil’s Trill,” written by the composer following a vivid dream in which Satan came to him in his room and, picking his violin off the table, played a melody so magical in its appeal that when Tartini awoke he immediately jotted down what he could remember of it. Mr. Dunn will play other favourite solos and will be assisted by Mr. Cyril Towsey at the piano and by a vocalist.
