LINESMAN’S DEATH
SHOCK AND FALL FROM POLE Press Association HAWERA, Friday. An inquest concerning the death of Mr. Lindsay Allan, foreman telegraph linesman, who fell from a telegraph pole at Kaponga on Wednesday, was held today. The coroner returned a verdict of accidental death, there being insufficient evidence to show whether the electric shock which led to the fall or the fall itself was the actual cause of death. Evidence was given that Mr. Allan was astride a cross-arm of the telegraph pole when he came into contact with a high-tension power line running overhead. Another linesman heard Mr. Allan call and saw him fall into the telegraph wires with a flash of blue flames between his body and the wires. The linesman mounted the ladder, hut the leather body belt broke and Mr. Allan fell 16ft to the ground.
