i £600,000 FORFEIT IF MARRIES WRONG MAN GRANDMOTHER’S CONSENT A beautiful girl of 22 has been left a fortune of £600,000 on condition that she does not marry without the consent of lier grandmother, if the grandmother is alive. She is also asked to assume “the names and arms of Brocklehurst, which are those of her great-uncle who has left her the fortune. The girl is Miss Lettice Mary Talbot, of Crickley Lodge, Witcombe, Gloucestershire, whose great-uncle, Lieut.-Colonel William Brocklehurst, of Butlev Hall, Macclesfield, head of Messrs. J. and T. Brocklehurst, silk manufacturers, has left £960,314. Marriage Ciause Colonel Brocklehurst leaves the residue of his personal estate to Miss Talbot —provided that his said greatniece obtains her grandmother’s(Mrs. Talbot’s) consent to her marriage if such should take place during her lifetime, or that of the trustees or the majority of them after the decease of her said grandmother. In reply to an inquiry concerning the conditions of the bequest Miss Talbot said: “I have no statement to make.” A relative who was asked if Miss Talbot was at present engaged to be i ! married, replied: “Not so far as I j know.” Fair Hair and Blue Eyes Miss Talbot, a tall, fair girl with blue eyes and soft brown hair, stated recently that she would not benefit from the bequest until she is 25. She lives with her mother at Crickley Lodge, which is set in one of the fairest parts of England and is several miles from a village. She is a cousin of Ethel Susan, Lady St. John of Bletso, and was presented at Court in 1927. Miss Talbot is the only child of Colonel Brocklehurst’s sister’s son, Captain Talbot, who died in 1918. Among other bequests Colonel Brocklehurst leaves to the Corporation of Macclesfield all his pictures, except family portraits and objects of art in the West Park Museum at Macclesfield, to be kept there for exhi- I bition. Death duties payable on the estate will amount to about ,£278,000. J
