MAY BEATTY
Part in New Film Secured DAUGHTER’S SUCCESS May Beatty, the New Zealand actress, has secured a part in "The Benson Murder Case.” In a letter recently received in Sydney, her daughter Bunnie L»auri states that others in the cast are William Powell, Natalie Moorehead, Paul Lucas and William Boyd.
“They began rehearsing last week and shoot on Monday,” she adds. “The work is very strenuous. Mother is at the studio from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Her wardrobe is gorgeous. In one scene she wears a chinchilla wrap, borrowed from Pola Negri. It's wortli £2,000. Her jewellery is lovely, too, a different set going with each dress.” Miss Lauri* forgot to mention that she is on Universal’s pay-roll as a member of Paul Whiteman’s “King of Jazz” company. John Murray Anderson, the director, is the man who used to produce the “Greenwich Village Follies,” the only real rival to the Ziegfeld Follies on Broadway. Since it’s quite on the cards that Anderson will return to New York for the next theatrical season, taking with him much of the new talent he is developing in “King of Jazz,” Broadway looms ahead for the young Australian daughter of May Beatty.
