RINGING THE CHANGES A barmaid in a Sydney hotel was too clever for a man who tried to ring the changes. It was. the old dodge of placing five two-shilling pieces on the counter for a half-note in exchange. After chat ting casually for a few minutes, he pushed the whole amount across for a £1 note. But the barmaid had been caught before, and by the same man. Calmly she pocketed the whole amount, end challenged him to call the police. But the would-be thief left for parts unknown without delay.
