MURDER COVE.—This spot on Taukiepa or Long Island , was the scene of a massacre of American whalers in 1823. The only person on the island who escaped was an aboriginal woman who lived alone for nine months feeding on seals and muttonbirds. The picture shows the Wetere, one of the 'birders' boats, calling for cargo.
