EMPRESS, NEWTON
“Street Girl,” a musical talkie drama, telling of the struggle of a little group of musicians to win fame, is now at the Empress Theatre, Newtor. Betty Compson has the leading role, that of Sadie, a homeless girl violinist, who is befriended by the members of the Four Seasons Orchestra. She is engaged in the combination, which plays in a small Hungarian cafe in the poor quarter of New York’s east side. There she plays before Prince Nickolaus of Aregon, who is touring America, and he kisses her while the crowd applauds. This publicity brings the lit :le orchestra. phenomenal success, but Mike, the leader, becomes jealous in his belief that Sophie loves the prince. He confronts Prince Nickolaus In his quarters and accuses him of being unfaithful to the girl. A highly dramatic climax brings happiness again to the little orchestra, the combination eventually being seen established in a night club of their own.
