ROXY AND CRYSTAL PALACE
'•PAINTED FACES” Jo© E. Brown, in the part of a vaudeville clown, has the leading- role in “Painted Faces,” the “talkie” which is being presented at both the Roxy Theatre, Queen Street, and Crystal Palace Theatre, Mt. Eden. He is elected to a jury to try a 1 fellow-artist. Buddy Barton, on a ! charge of murder. He persistently votes the prisoner innocent, and it subsequently transpires that he himself is the murderer. His crime is morally justified, however, and he escapes punishment on a technicality of law. Barton is discharged and the film ends happily. A charming romance has been woven into the story. Subordinate roles are enacted by Helen Foster, one of the principals of “Gold Diggers of Broadway.” Barton Hepburn. Dorothy Gulliver, Lester Cole. Sojin. Jack Richardson and Howard Truesdell. A supporting programme of enjopable featurettes is shown in addition.
