ODDFELLOWS TO CONFER
MANCHESTER UNITY’S BIG MEETING Delegates numbering 100, representing 61 lodges, are expected to be present at the 84th. annual conference of the Manchester Unity Oddfellows, which will be opened at 9.30 o'clock next Wednesday morning. The conference will be held In the Manchester Unity Building. Victoria and Hobson Streets, and will be presided over by Brother Fred Best, of Hamilton, District Grand Master. The Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, will extend a civic welcome to the delegates. The Auckland District is what is termed a consolidated district, and from January 1, 1916, the date vrhen it adopted that form of government, its progress has been highly satisfactory, its numerical increase being considerably in excess of 4.000 members. The admissions to benefit membership in 1929, number 981, by clearance 163, and by reinstatement 30, being a total of 1,154 entrants. The membership at the end of the year numbered 7,568.
During the year the district paid In benefits the following amounts: Sick pay £11,742 4s 2d, medical attendance and medicine. £9,129 5s lid, hospital fees, £3,800 6s lid, funeral allowances. £1,540. maternity allowances £2.520, and benevolence £52 0s 6d, aggregating £28,783 17s 6rt for the year. Next week’s conference, will be the largest ever held by the Manchester Unity In Auckland, and It promises to be of unusual interest to members of the Order, in that a complete revision of the rules of the society will be considered. The New Zealand Branch of the Society will hold its biennial movable conference in Palmerston North, starting on Monday, April 28. The Auckland district will be represented at that conference by 16 delegates, who will be chosen at next, week's conference. The Installation of newly elected officers of the Auckland district will be carried out In the Manchester Unity Hall, Victoria Street, at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Marc's 13 The ceremony is to be broadcast. At the conclusion of the installation cere mony a social will be held.
