SHIP’S NEW FUEL
HGRGRATA USING MORE PULVERISED COAL OPERATING COST LESS Reed. Noon. LONDON, Thursday. Progress in the use of pulverised coal apparatus for ships’ boilers was marked by the Hororata’s departure for New Zealand with all except one boiler fired by the new automatic process. She has already made two journeys with half her boilers heated by pulverised coal and it is now hoped that five will do the work of six boilers. She will need 12 stokers less and it is estimated the new system will save £5,000 annually.
