“WORST SINCE THE WAR”
POLICE AND COMMUNISTS CLASH RIOT IN NEW YORK STREETS Reed. 11.5 a.m. NEW YORK, Thurs. A hundred persons were injured in a riot described by Police Commissioner Whalen as “the worst since the war,” when Communists gathered about soapbox orators in Union Square, apd attempted to march toward the City Hall. The police, one of whom received a fractured skull, attempted to stop the march, whereupon rioting -►commenced. Many persons were battered, crushed and trampled in the scrimmage atd many Communists were arrested, including three prominent leaders of their numbers.
