Caddies’ Age Limit

St. Andrews lias made a proper and a timely concession in the matter of the age limit for caddies who do not wish to forfeit their amateur status as golfers, says an English writer. In raising the limit from 16 to 18 years in the case of youths carrying ! clubs for hire, there will be fewer instances of bitterness on the part of young men, especially among the vast army of artisans in Scotland and the great industrial centres, who in the past have been barred from playing in amateur competitions because of infringement of the rule during their earlier days. In America, it is a common practice for undergraduates at the various colleges to hire themselves out as caddies during vacation, the money thus earned enabling them to undertake an adventurous holiday at the more famous golfing resorts.
