I have stated
both in the Press and to Chairman Wear that I am not available for 1930. in case of error anil in case it has not. been understood. let me repeat that. I am not available for the Davis Cup team of the United States for 1930. Statisticians have figured that the gigantic Primo de Camera made £1,600 each minute he was in the ring in His first three fights in the United States of America. But it will take him a long time to be worth his weight in gold. An Unofficial Record R. O. Johnson, who is in great form just now, cleared 45ft sin in a hop. step and jump at Dunedin on Saturday week. But as there was a helping wind on the Caledonian Ground the performance cannot be recognised as a record, though the distance covered beat the previous best in Otago. * * * I r.ternational Soccer The South African Football Association is anxious to link up with the international control of Soccer. It has suggested that it might he allowed representation on the International Football Board, which controls the laws of play. But South Africa is not likely to have that wish realised —for a long time come, at any rate. Bob Pearce, Olympic Games champion sculler, is to have a new boat, built by Australians of Australian materials, when he competes at the Empire championships, in Canada. * * * On his return to Melbourne, Lynch Cooper repeated his statement that Don McLennan (New Zealand) is one of the greatest runners he has competed against.
England's New Captain The fact that England's Rugby team again has a forward as its captain is
not to be taken as an indication of policy, for J. S. Tucker, the new leader of the *dde, is easily the most experienced man in the fifteen. He first played for England in the 1921-22 season, but did not become a regular member of the team until the 1924-25 season, when he played against New’ Zealand as well as against the other Home unions and France. He has been one of the first choices for the pack ever since. He is a hooker. * * * An actor had been guilty of a piece of dargerous driving in His car. A policeman approached, tugging his notebook and pencil from his pocket. The actor smiled. “Well, my man,*' he said pleasantly, “I make it a rule never to sign autograph albums, but in your case I’ll make an exception. . . Periton Turns Out Again H. G. Periton, who captained England's Rugby team after R. CoveSmith’s retirement, announced after the 1928-29 season that he had retired from international football. However, the English selectors intimated that they desired him to play in the present season’s trials, and Periton was persuaded to turn out again. ?o he is still playing for the side now. Periton is a wing-forward.
